Super Stock and Pro Stock Sprint Boat racing is best compared to its asphalt counterpart, NASCAR stock car racing. These two highly competitive classes of powerboat racing have been around for over 30 years within the American Power Boat Association.
Like NASCAR, Super Stock boats must adhere to specific restrictions in order to form a level playing field. The engines that power these machines are limited to a stock 427 cubic inch motor that is capable of producing over 620 horsepower. These restrictions make for very close competition at speeds over 110 MPH. Pro Stock boats are limited to a 500 cubic inch motor that must be naturally aspirated. Pro Stock engines can produce in excess of 1000 horsepower. With these boats reaching speeds over 120 MPH; the racing is always exciting and fast.
