K–Boats Going Down Under

January 9th 2007…Current K-Boat World Kilo Speed Record holder Duff Daley and 2005 APBA K–Boat Champion John Brinton are heading Down Under to Australia with their boats to compete in 2007 along with 2005 APBA Pro Stock National Champion Loud' N Proud team driver Chris Kenner.
Australian racer and promoter Chris Palmer has been working hard over the last 12 months to make this a reality and has had many conversations back and forth with a number of USA teams. Earlier this week Palmer was very pleased to confirm that Brinton, Daley and Kenner will be making the trek Down Under to mix it with the best B.A.D – Blown Alcohol Displacement boats, the Aussie’s have to offer.
The event that is bringing boats out of the wood work left and right in Australia is being conducted over two weekends of racing and will be run under the Australian Power Boat Association in-conjunction with the Upper Hawkesbury Powerboat Club and the Melton Runabout and Speedboat Club. The event has also been sanctioned by the UIM – Union Internationale Motonautique as the 2007 UIM World Unlimited Displacement Championships.
Windsor Marine Stadium, about 30 miles northwest of downtown Sydney on the beautiful Upper Hawkesbury River, will see round one of the event conducted over the weekend of January 26-28 2007. Round two will head south to be run over the weekend of February 2-4 at Hazelwood Pondage, about 90 miles south east of downtown Melbourne where the 2007 UIM World Unlimited Displacement Champion will be crowned.
Duff Daley will pilot his K23 sprint boat over both weekends whilst John Brinton will drive his capsule K997 boat at round 1 in Sydney and then Chris Kenner will take over the driving duties in Brinton’s K997 machine at round two in Melbourne as John has to return home to New Jersey due to work commitments directly after the Sydney event. The USA K-Boat team knows they have some very tough competition they will face come race time. The Aussies have some very fast and nice race equipment as Larry Hamilton experienced during his two very successful racing visits to Australia with Kenner in 2003 and 2004.
This event promises to produce some awesome racing with around twenty Aussie B.A.D boats along with the two USA K-Boats billed to be in attendance both weekends. If you’re thinking of a trip down to Australia, this might be a good time to head there.
