2007
Season Update
September 18th, 2007É ItŐs been a crazy busy race season to date and our
apologies for not updating our website for a while. To bring you up to date
hereŐs a brief overview of our racing efforts since our last update in May.
Both Loud
N Proud team boats headed to Red Bluff for the IHBA Nitro Nationals over
Memorial Day Weekend May 25th – 27th looking to
turn in a solid performance. SS68 had a few gremlins that unfortunately
prevented team owner and driver Jeff Brochheueser from making the final both
days in Super Stock. The PS681 was run in Pro Stock trim within the Super Stock
class with Aussie Chris Kenner behind the wheel to help make a strong field of
14 boats. Unfortunately the teams PS engine expired itself on Sunday in heat
one in a bad way. After the Red Bluff race the decision was make to park the
PS681 boat for the remainder of the 2007 season or until a SPONSOR can be
attained to assist with the running costs that it takes to field a two boat
team. So the team transferred the PS681 number to BrochheuserŐs SS68 capsule
Super Stock to carry on the PS681 points to try secure Brochheuser, Kenner and
the Loud N Proud team a second ABPA Pro Stock National Championship. Since then
Jeff has competed as SS68 in Super Stock and PS681 in Pro Stock and has been
doing a great job finishing consistently in both
classes racking up APBA national
points for both the Super Stock and Pro Stock classes.
The weekend
of June 22nd-24th saw the running of the 2007 Burley,
Idaho Regatta. 18 Super Stocks and 10 Pro Stocks were on hand which produced
some great racing throughout the weekend. Brochheuser had a pretty good weekend
scoring a 2nd, 1st and 4th placing throughout
the weekend in Super Stock. In Pro Stock Jeff drove to 2nd, 5th
and 3rd places. The SS68/PS681 machine did not finish SaturdayŐs SS
or PS finalŐs due to a broken timing chain which brought about an engine change
Saturday night. Kenner drove Danny and Karen LovelessŐs PS74 Barron Sprint Beg,
Borrow and Steal to a strong 3rd place overall in points for weekend
in Pro Stock.
Next stop
on the tour was the 2007 APBA Western Divisional Championships on July 6th-8th
at Black Lake just outside Olympia, WA in the beautiful Northwest. Brochheuser
made the decision to put big course expert Kip Brown of Maple Valley, WA in the
driverŐs seat for the weekend of SS68. Saturday was not so good with a fuel
system problem causing the engine to expire. The team swapped in a fresh engine
ready for SundayŐs action and Kip did a great job taking a 1st and a
2nd place to finish 2nd overall in points for the
weekend. There was sadly no Pro Stock class run at this event due to lack of
entries. Chris Kenner was in the driverŐs seat of John BrintonŐs K997 Light
Speed entry out of New Jersey, NY in the K racing Runabout class and drove to a
2nd place overall in points for the event.
The 2007
Long Beach Sprint Nationals that was held over the weekend of August 10th-12th
at the famous Marine Stadium was an extra special event this year. Saturday saw
the running of the UIM Pro Stock World Championships. Brochheuser did a great
job and qualified the 681 for the six boat final. Twelve of the best Pro Stock
boats were on hand in the country. Jeff finished a very credible 4th
place in the UIM World Final. Sunday at Long Beach brought yet another very prestigious
event in the 2007 APBA Summer National Championships for Super Stock, Pro Stock
and K Racing Runabout. Jeff drove SS68 to three 2nd place finishes
for the weekend. In SundayŐs APBA Summer National Championship final SS68 lost
a complete blade off the propeller coming out of turn 1 on lap 2 whilst running
in second position. Fortunately it happened there and not further down the
straightaway. Jeff felt a bad vibration and shut the engine off coming out of
the corner. The boat was a little worse for wear with a fair bit of hardware
and fiberglass damage that is needed to be repaired. Overall Brochheuser
finished 2nd in points at Long Beach in the Super Stock class with
SS68. Kenner was in another new boat for the first time driving Mike and
Jennifer LeeŐs PS89 Flat Crazy to a 5th place in the Pro Stock World
Final after spinning out in the first corner. Chris also finished 2nd
overall in Pro Stock points. Chris was back in the seat of Pat and Dian
BreazealeŐs K66 – Blown Brothers K Racing Runabout, finishing 2nd
in the APBA Summer National Championships and 2nd place overall in
KRR points for the weekend. Congratulations goes out to team owner Dave Rankin,
driver Dave Bryant and the entire SS/PS80 team for taking 1st place
in the 2007 UIM Pro Stock World Championships along with first place in both
the Super Stock and Pro Stock APBA Summer National Championships. Awesome job
guys!!!! Greg Shirley, owner/driver of SS7 – Barley Wet threw all the SS,
PS and KRR teams an awesome Italian feast on Saturday night at Long Beach.
Thank you from all of us. Very nice indeed!!!
This past
weekend of September 14th-16th the Loud N Proud team
attended the annual San Diego Thunderboat Regatta that is
conducted on the
beautiful Mission Bay. 8 Super Stocks made the starters call and although boat
numbers were down a little there was some awesome racing. Jeff Brochheueser was
back in the teams open cockpit 681 Canary running it as SS68 due to some damage
to the teamŐs regular SS68 Revenge capsule boat. The repair work, that is to be
done over the winter to the SS68 capsule boat came as a result from the loss of
a blade off the propeller at the recent Long Beach Sprint Nationals. Brochheuser
had a great weekend, taking 3 x second place finishes and a third with a 2nd
place overall in points for the event. SundayŐs SS final was an awesome
spectacle as Brochheuser really took it up the SS80 boat driving the pants of
his 68 boat. Jeff had the lead from lane 1 ahead of Dave Bryant in the Rankin owned
SS80 (who came out of lane 6) for 3 laps. Bryant managed to get around Jeff on
the last lap, but not by much to take the win. Thanks must go to Dave Rankin
for the great BBQ on Saturday night
To date
the Loud N Proud team has had a very good season with some ups, downs and mixed
results. SS68 is currently leading the APBA National Championship points just
125 points ahead of the Dave Rankin owned SS80 driven by Dave Bryant. In the
Super Stock Racing Association SS68 sits in 2nd place behind SS80 by
around 230 points. PS681 is in 2nd place in APBA National Points,
262 points behind Dale Hernandez JrŐs PS690. PS681 leads the points in the
Western Pro Stock Racing AssociationŐs series just 88 points ahead of PS80.
With only a few races remaining the Loud N Proud team is in a very strong
position to take out some very nice championship hardware for 2007 all going to
plan.
Our next
event is the Southern California Speedboat Club Season Finals at Lake Ming,
Bakersfield. More information on this event please go to www.scscracing.com
